ZR25/ Gloria

This season was a huge year for the team. ZR25 was the first car built under the new combined team of Zips Racing and Zips Racing Electric. This car brought forth an AWD 4 hub motor car, combined with the team’s first full carbon fiber monocoque. The car utilized 13-inch Goodyear tires, as well as a 600V pouch cell accumulator. This car competed at Pittsburgh Shootout, placing 6th overall and a 5th place finish in autocross.

ZR22/ Silvia

2022/23 Competition Season Pictures

In one of the most successful seasons in Zips Racing history, the team unleashed ZR22, better known as “Silvia.” This two year build was led by Team Captain Raymond Hilbert. She had some familiar features; a Yamaha WR450 and carbon fiber hybrid monocoque, but also featured fully autonomous front & rear DRS and 13-inch Goodyear tires for the first time. The team had an exciting season, competing in FSAE Michigan, FS Germany, FS East, and FS Austria.

ZR20/ Roxanne

2020 COMPETITION SEASON PICTURES

ZR20 was a 2 year build due to the pandemic. Zips Racing saw the lead of 2 captains Jeff DiSante and Henry Wathen during this time. The car utilized a monocoque, 10-inch Goodyear tires and a Yamaha WR-450. The car competed in one SAE competition, Formula SAE Nevada, in Las Vegas.

ZR19/Monica

2019 competition season pictures

For the 2019 racing season, Zips Racing competed with ‘Monica’, the first car in team history to feature a carbon fiber half-monocoque and center lock hubs. Over the season, the team took Monica to the U.S. and Europe to achieve a top 10 finish at FSAE Michigan and a 2nd place at Formula Student East during the first trip to Hungary.

ZR18/Tanya

2018 competition season pictures

For the 2018 racing season, Zips Racing competed with Tanya. This car competed in four countries, and it utilized Goodyear tires for the first time since 2013. Its major highlights include a 6th place finish at FSAE Michigan, a 2nd place Autocross at Formula North, and design finals appearances at Formula Student Germany and Formula North.

Its highlights include two top-ten finishes at Formula Student Austria and Germany, two top-three fuel efficiency finishes, and a fifth-place endurance at Formula Student Austria.

ZR14

2014 competition season pictures

ZR14 was the last year for big aero in FSAE and with that the team designed DRS for the 2014 season. We continued to run our single cylinder and big aero package. The car competed in Michigan, Germany, and Czech Republic.

2013 COMPETITION SEASON PICTURES

2013 was an innovative year for the team. This was Akron’s first aero car that utilized a front and rear wing, along with an undertray. The team also switched over to a single cylinder Yamaha WR450 for the first time in the team’s history. The car competed in Michigan and Germany.

The ZR12 was the last of Zips Racing’s 4-cylinder cars. It utilized a R6 Yamaha motor making over 80hp and utilized Goodyear tires. It was also used as a test mule for our aero package for the 2013 car. It competed in Michigan, Germany, and Austria.
