ZR24/Charlotte

In Zips Racing’s final year making a combustion car, the team built Charlotte. This car included the lightest monocoque, lightest steel tube subframe, and lightest aerodynamic package in team history. Classic components include a Yamaha WR450 engine, rear DRS system, and 13-inch tires. Led by Team Captain Gianna Buzzelli, Charlotte competed at FSAE Michigan and will also attend Pitt Shootout and Toronto Shootout.

 

ZR22/Silvia

Similar to ZR20, ZR22 was also a 2-year build. Led both years by Team Captain Raymond Hilbert, this car featured a half carbon-fiber monocoque, both a front and rear DRS system, and 13-inch tires. Throughout the 2023 racing season, Silvia competed in the top 10% at FSAE Michigan and boasts third-place in FS East, with Top-10 finishes in FS Austria and FS Germany.

ZR20/Roxanne

ZR20 was a 2 year build due to the pandemic. Zips Racing saw the lead of 2 captains Jeff DiSante and Henry Wathen during this time. The car utilized a monocoque, 10-inch Goodyear tires and a Yamaha WR-450. The car competed in one SAE competition, Formula SAE Nevada, in Las Vegas.

ZR19/Monica

For the 2019 racing season, Zips Racing competed with ‘Monica’, the first car in team history to feature a carbon fiber half-monocoque and center lock hubs. Over the season, the team took Monica to the U.S. and Europe to achieve a top 10 finish at FSAE Michigan and a 2nd place at Formula Student East during the first trip to Hungary.

ZR18/Tanya

For the 2018 racing season, Zips Racing competed with Tanya. This car competed in four countries, and it utilized Goodyear tires for the first time since 2013. Its major highlights include a 6th place finish at FSAE Michigan, a 2nd place Autocross at Formula North, and design finals appearances at Formula Student Germany and Formula North.

ZR17/Fiona

For the 2017 racing season, Zips Racing competed with Fiona. This car competed in three countries, and it featured a completed overhauled approach to body and aerodynamics. Its highlights include two top-ten finishes at Formula Student Austria and Germany, two top-three fuel efficiency finishes, and a fifth-place endurance at Formula Student Austria.

For the 2016 racing season, Zips Racing competed in the United States and Canada in three competitions.

ZR14 was the last year for big aero in FSAE and with that the team designed DRS for the 2014 season. We continued to run our single cylinder and big aero package. The car competed in Michigan, Germany, and Czech Republic.

2013 was an innovative year for the team. This was Akron’s first aero car that utilized a front and rear wing, along with an undertray. The team also switched over to a single cylinder Yamaha WR450 for the first time in the team’s history. The car competed in Michigan and Germany.
